I think at this point we’ve all seen that picture of Paul Mescal. You know the one.

Two pink gins, a beer and a packet of crisps in hand, it’s been doing the rounds on social media with people swooning over it. Most of the commentary is over how Irish he looks with his white legs and GAA shorts (no man has ever looked so good in GAA shorts).

The Normal People star has recently opened up about how he’s adjusting to being papped on the street.

Whilst on RTE Radio 1, speaking to Marty Morrissey he spoke about his new found fame. Given the current Covid-19 restrictions Paul has been doing all the press related to the show from his flat in North London so he revealed that the idea of being famous hasn’t quite hit him yet.

Despite the fact that the show has A-list fans including Katy Perry, Kourtney Kardashian, James Corden and Saoirse Ronan, Paul Mescal’s lifestyle hasn’t changed that much yet because “the world is at a standstill.”

Speaking about getting snapped by the paparazzi, which is a very new thing for the Kildare actor he said; “Some of it requires a bit of adjustment. Now I know that sometimes going to the shop I might be photographed.”

And that particular picture everyone has been loving? He said; “I couldn’t think of anything better to wear than a pair of Maynooth football shorts.”

“Generally, it’s been very positive but it’ll have to take a bit of adjustment.”

However, the actor has been constantly snapped by paparazzi in London, with an image of Paul holding two cans of gin on his way home from the shops going viral last week.

“We kind of experience the fame side of it through social media and when you put the phones and laptops aside it’s hard to see what it looks like in reality because the world is standing still at the moment.”

We think this will only be the beginning of the Irish actors new found fame as he has been tipped for some big roles after the runaway success of Normal People.
