It’s hard to believe that Little Mix has been around for almost ten years, and since their big break, they’ve captured the hearts of many, MANY people. With fans of various ages, there were plenty of us who were delighted to have their brand new album Confetti drop on Friday.
However, the band have faced some criticism since the release, claiming that the lyrics are too racy for their younger fans. But Perrie Edwards has come out to defend herself and the rest of the band, as well as their lyrics, saying, “We’re mature women, we want to talk about naughty things”.
Speaking to Metro, Perrie explained, “I think there’s a way of doing it. There’s being really cheeky and being a bit naughty but not full out saying it.”
She continued, “It’s just getting clever with the lyrics and I think we’ve done that a lot in the past because we know we have a young fan base but we’re women.”
“We’re mature women, we want to talk about naughty things but we like to respect our fans as well,” Perrie added.
Little Mix’s chief songwriter, Kamille, also recently spoke to The Mirror about the band, saying, “their own minds and their own sexual energy” which they put into the album.
“A big part of that is because the girls are not young anymore,” she explained. “They are grown women who have their own minds, their own sexual energy, and sometimes they wanna just say some sh*t!”
She continued, “It’s been a journey, having to keep it super PG. I’m definitely someone who always wants to push that, and we have with this new album. I do like making things a bit controversial – I think that’s what sells and what catches people’s ear.”
