Ruchee Got Real In Exit Interview On Last Night’s Love Island

We'll miss you Ruchee!

Last night, we saw fan fav Ruchee Gurung get dumped from the Love Island villa, following a shocking recoupling in which the islanders had to choose between Ruchee and Ella. Yikes.

But Ruchee wasn’t going to leave without letting us know her thoughts – and we have to say, the London gal held herself with complete and utter grace. You go girl! Read on to hear what Ruchee had to say.

How does it feel to have left the Villa?

I thought that I would be disappointed, but I’m not because I tried my best and I was myself. It didn’t work out for me and that’s completely fine. I thought that Ella was going to get saved because she has a connection in there, I would have probably even nominated myself to go – I’m so happy that they chose her. I would want her to continue her journey. I’ve built a really good relationship with the girls and I’m such a girls’ girl. I’m glad I got to experience being in the Villa. Coming from an Asian background, I did it for my community – represent! My journey was short, but it was sweet, so I’m happy.

When you learned the other Islanders would make the decision, how did you feel about that?

I wasn’t really surprised, I had a feeling that Ella would be saved by the Islanders. Her and Tyrique have been doing so well. Obviously the public put them together and I feel like they’re a good match. We’ve seen Tyrique and Ella both blossom and get really comfortable with each other, just because a bombshell has come in I don’t think they’re ‘done’.

How did you feel about your connection with Andre ending?

I do feel like in there you’re in there for yourself and I completely understand where Andre was coming from. The timing might not have been right for me, but it was right for him as things didn’t go well for Catherine and Zach, so he wanted to try again. I do understand and I do get where he is coming from. But obviously I was slowly starting to open up to him so I was a bit disappointed.

Do you support Andre and Catherine exploring their connection?

I completely support Catherine and Andre. I’m not going to be anyone’s second choice, which is why I ended things with him. Until then he hadn’t really mentioned anything to me about Catherine. After the challenge he said, ‘This is what I want to do.’ You’ve got to do you at the end of the day. I’m supportive and happy. Catherine’s my girl. I feel like I’ve built such a good relationship with everyone. I just want everyone to be happy.

Who do you think is a genuine couple and who are you rooting for?

I’m definitely rooting for Medhi and Whitney. Whitney really saw the vision from the start. She saw the potential and said, ‘I am going to show the world what I see.’ I’m so glad she made that choice. Obviously I was coupled up with Medhi in the beginning, I built such a good relationship with him. I love Medhi so much, he’s hilarious. I’m rooting for Tyrique and Ella as well. They’re so cute together. They’re like naughty school kids that like each other and flirt with each other. Andre and Catherine I think will do well, I feel like they’re each other’s type.

Would you do anything differently? Is there a boy you didn’t pursue?

No, I don’t think I would have done anything differently. Maybe when I was getting to know Andre, I shouldn’t have been so ‘tunnel visioned’. But at the time I wasn’t feeling anyone else. I’m such a one person at a time… even though I was telling everyone to get to know everyone else. I don’t take my own advice! But no regrets, honestly. I enjoyed my time in there and it was a great experience.

Do you have a favourite moment in the Villa?

Medhi’s just hilarious. I’m going to miss him. Whitney coming in, she reminds me of my best friend so much, she’s very straight-forward and says it how it is.

How would you sum up your experience in Love Island?

It was short, but it was sweet. I feel like I’ve made friends for life. I didn’t find love but I found friendship.

Would you recommend Love Island to a friend?

I would be like, ‘Do it. It’s an experience that not a lot of people get. You also learn a lot of things about yourself’. I’ve learned to let my guard down and let people in.
