Season 5 Of The Crown Is On The Way
Here's everything we know so far
It’s been a while now since a show has gripped us quite like season four of The Crown did. Leaving his desperate for more, we have good news for fans of the show as season five should be with us in no time.
Filming for the fifth season of the hugely popular series is officially underway. The new season will show a different actor take on the role of the Queen, Imelda Staunton, as the show’s official account has shared a sneak peek at her in character.
They wrote: “An early glimpse of our new Queen Elizabeth II, Imelda Staunton”

While there aren’t a tonne of details about the new season yet, we do know that following this season there will be one more which brings us up to the early 2000s, as reported by Deadline. Subtly confirming that news, Imelda released a statement following the announcement of her role where she said that she was excited to bring the show to its ‘conclusion’.
“I am genuinely honored to be joining such an exceptional creative team and to be taking the crown to its conclusion.”
As for the rest of the cast, Elizabeth Debicki will be playing the role of Princess Diana, Dominic West will be Prince Philip, Jonathan Pryce will play Prince Philip, and Lesley Manville will be stepping up as Princess Margaret.
Fans are throwing suggestions around as to where the end of season five will leave us, with it being possible that it will end on Charles and Diana’s divorce or her tragic death, leaving room for season six to explore the aftermath.
We might have a little while to wait before we get to see the show on our screens, unfortunately. Filming for season five began in July this year, and so given the attention to detail the show is known and loved for, it’s unlikely it’ll land on Netflix any time this year. Instead, critics reckon it’ll be 2022 before it drops.
We’ll keep you updated in the meantime!
