Selena Gomez Shares How She Moved On After Being ‘Emotionally Abused’ By Justin Bieber
"It was very difficult for me and I’m happy it’s over.”
Selena Gomez has opened up about her past relationship with Justin Bieber, telling how she healed after being ‘emotionally abused’ by him.
In one of her most open interviews yet, Selena told NPR just how toxic her relationship with Justin Bieber had become before they eventually called it quits back in 2018.
Selena’s relationship with Justin was extremely high profile. The two began dating in 2011 when they were just teens. While the two called things off and on again numerous times in-between, they officially split in March of 2018
Speaking to NPR Selena said:
“I’ve found strength in it, It’s dangerous to stay in a victim mentality. And I’m not being disrespectful, I do feel I was a victim to certain abuse.”
When asked if she was specifically referring to emotional abuse, Selena said yes.
“I had to find a way to understand it as an adult. And I had to understand the choices I was making. As much as I definitely don’t want to spend the rest of my life talking about this, I am really proud that I can say I feel the strongest I’ve ever felt and I’ve found a way to just walk through it with as much grace as possible.”
Selena also revealed that her song ‘Lose You To Love Me” was written with Justin in mind.
“I’m very proud of it,” she said
“It has a different meaning to me now from when I wrote it. I felt I didn’t get a respectful closure, and I had accepted that,”
The 27-year-old did also say that her relationship with Justin wasn’t entirely bad but admitted that while they had some good times, this is a chapter of her life that she would like to close for good.
“I had something beautiful and I would never deny that it wasn’t that. It was very difficult for me and I’m happy it’s over.”
