Shawn Mendes Has Apologised To Fans For ‘Racially Insensitive’ Tweets From His Teens

Shawn Mendes has been forced to address some old tweets of his this week, after he was questioned about them earlier this week

The Senorita singer, who just turned 21, took to Instagram today to issue an apology for the tweets that were unearthed from his account from 2013, and made it clear that they did not reflect his personality now.

The tweets in question, which have now been deleted, included one of the singer referring to a friend as “mah n***a”.

Shawn’s initial response to the questioning at a Q&A this week left fans unimpressed.

“A lot of things just need to be moved on from.” he replied.

“But I also think that the things that [you] saw, like I had friends when I was 14 who would like take my phone and post things of them because they thought it was funny that I had like 2,000 followers and it was this big thing.”

“And they’d post photos of themselves and at the time I was just like not thinking about it. I had no idea I was going to have 50 million followers, which doesn’t make it any better.”

Shawn added: “But um, yeah totally I apologise for everything insensitive I said in the past, but with that being said, yeah, I think that’s not my personality.”

Since then however, Shawn has cleared up his comments, and issued a sincere apology for any offence he may have caused.

What do you think of Shawn’s apology? Sound sincere? Or too little too late?
