For many of us, the Black Eyed Peas played a pretty big part in music growing up, whether you used to dance around the sitting room to Elephunk or they were the soundtrack to your nights out in your 20s. Now, they’re back with a brand new album (!!!), but it turns out there’s now only three members of the Black Eyed Peas, rather than four.

In an interview with Billboard, will.i.am was asked if Fergie has had a preview of their new album, Translation. Basically, the short answer was no, but they’re all trying to keep in touch.

“She hasn’t heard it. She’s going to hear it when everybody else hears it. I hope she likes it. We try to keep in touch,” will.i.am said. “We reach out every once in a while and say our hellos and happy birthdays and Merry Christmas and Happy Easter.”

So, the reason why Fergie isn’t part of the Black Eyed Peas anymore, is that she’s taking this time to focus on raising her (and Josh Duhamel’s) son, Axl.

“She knows where we’re at! We’re at the studio. And we love her, and she’s focusing on being a mom,” will.i.am added. “That’s a hard job, and that’s what she really wants to do and we’re here for her, and she knows how to contact us for a retreat or a breakaway. It’s really the way Fergie designed it, so we’re respecting her design. We love Fergie, and we don’t want anything but awesomeness for her.”

In the interview, Apl.de.ap agreed with will.i.am, saying, “Fergie is our sister. So even with these small connections, she’s always going to be our sister,” he said. “Unfortunately, our schedule is displaced by [her] wanting to be a great mom, and she wants to focus on that. And like Will said, we support her 100 percent.”

Well, there you have it. We love that for Fergie, but we can’t help hoping that she’ll join the Peas down the road for some new music.
