So This Is How Much It Would Cost To Stay In The ‘Home Alone 2’ Hotel

Let's just say it's not within our Christmas budget...

It’s a right of passage to watch Home Alone at Christmas time, whether you’re a die-hard Kevin McCallister fan or love each and every film. One thing that springs to mind when I think of Home Alone is how jealous I always was of Kevin’s own food concoctions. That scene in Home Alone 2 where he gets a ridiculous amount of room service? Dreamy.

But that’s literally all it will be, a dream. Because that hotel, in particular, will set you back a pretty penny to stay in. $30,000 (approx £23,000) a night, to be specific, and that’s without the massive room service order.

A Channel 4 documentary, Christmas in New York: Inside the Plaza, detailed the pricy cost, while an insider revealed that the staff go above and beyond for each and every guest. Well, we’d like to think so at that price, right?

You might remember that scene where Kevin is running around The Plaza hotel and bumps into no other than Donald Trump. Well, it turns out that was at Trump’s own request.

Home Alone director Chris Columbus said in an interview with Insider that Trump only agreed to let production go ahead if he got to appear in the film.

“Trump said okay,” Chris said. “We paid the fee, but he also said, ‘The only way you can use the Plaza is if I’m in the movie.’”

He continued, “So we agreed to put him in the movie, and when we screened it for the first time, the oddest thing happened: People cheered when Trump showed up onscreen. So I said to my editor, ‘Leave him in the movie. It’s a moment for the audience.’ But he did bully his way into the movie.”

Well, there we have it. Spare £23,ooo, anyone?
