A Definitive Ranking Of All The Harry Potter Films
Fight me.
The festive season is here – and with it the knowledge that you will be rewatching all of the Harry Potter films during this period.
You will. You don’t have a choice.
But where should you start, on your annual rewatch? In order to make the decision that little bit easier, I’ve compiled a definitive list of the top Harry Potter films, according to me.
Putting this list together was difficult as each of these films are genuinely excellent. The cast is insane. Rupert Grint is adorable. Alfonso Cuarón directed one of them(!).
It doesn’t get much better than that, literally. As you will see from this list.
Enjoy.
8. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2
Listen, this is a good movie, but they’re all good movies, and one of them has to be last.
This one has that weird future scene with the kids with the dumb names, so that’s why it’s number 8.
7. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1
Again, it’s good, but I didn’t watch it 50 times on DVD/video in the early noughties so it doesn’t have that same hold over me, I am sorry to say.
6. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
That car scene still looks better than most CGI today.
5. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Imelda Staunton was cast as Professor Umbridge and the world was never the same again. Awards, for that woman.
4. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
MY BOYYYY – say no more.
3. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
So much happens in this film, and yet, they did not feel the need to split it into two movies. I wonder why.
Anyway, this is a great flick, Alan Rickman kills it, and that Slughorn chair scene is magic.
2. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone
Name a more touching moment than Daniel Radcliffe standing on that train platform saying: “I’m not going home… not really.” You can’t. It’s impossible.
The first film is gorgeous, and deserves its spot on this list.
1. Harry Potter and the Prison of Azkaban
David Thewlis as Lupin. Alfonso Cuarón directing. The move towards a more casual wardrobe. The whole time turner bit. HE WAS THEIR FRIEND!
This film has everything, and it’s number one.
