A new documentary from the creators of the Tinder Swindler is coming – and it’s probably going to be one of the most popular series of next year.

Dead in the Water is an upcoming documentary set to premiere on Prime Video early in 2024, documenting the disappearance of a British couple who were murdered while backpacking in Central America in the ’70s.

The new show is produced by Raw TV, the same company who made popular Netflix series’ The Tinder Swindler and Don’t F*ck With Cats – which means you know it’s probably going to be fairly decent.

The three part series will focus on the Chris Farmer and Peta Framptom, a couple from the UK who were on the trip of a lifetime back in 1978, before they were tragically murdered.

Not long after their deaths, the trail in the hunt for their killer went cold. Now, four decades on, their families are still hopeful that the murderer will be brought to justice.

“The year is 1978, a young British couple embark on the trip of a lifetime through remote Central America,” reads the synopsis.

“Chris Farmer and Peta Frampton set out on an exhilarating backpacking adventure, the letters they write and the tapes they sent home were filled with tales of exotic landscapes, cultural encounters, and the thrill of the unknown. But their dream soon turns into a chilling nightmare when they are brutally murdered and the trail for their killer goes cold.

“Four decades later, failed by law enforcement, their family take up the manhunt and begin the descent into an unknown world of online sleuthing and make a shocking discovery.

“This is the story of a gap year gone terribly wrong, and a tale of two families on either side of the Atlantic, united by grief and bound by a common purpose – the pursuit of a killer, even when it seemed untenable, decades after his heinous crimes were committed.”

Sounds fascinating, tbh.

Little is known yet about the series’ exact release date, but right now it’s looking like it could be landing on our screens in early 2024.
