Back in May, the cast of iconic sitcom Friends reunited to reminisce about their time on the show and share some BTS secrets. Their reunion proved to be a big hit, and now it seems a popular film franchise is following in their footsteps.

Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliff, Rupert Grint, and filmmaker Chris Columbus will reunite for Return to Hogwarts, a 20th anniversary special for the Harry Potter film series.

It will premiere on the 1st of January 2022 on HBO Max in the US, with no word on a release date for this side of the pond, but we can expect a Sky or similar offering.

The special will focus on the creation of the films and experiences of the cast and crew.

Also confirmed to be joining the reunion will be Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Alfred Enoch, Ralph Fiennes, Tom Felton, Jason Isaacs, Matthew Lewis, Evanna Lynch, Gary Oldman, James Phelps, Oliver Phelps, Imelda Staunton, Mark Williams, and Bonnie Wright.

The trailer has already been released and promises a magical experience.

Emma Watson who played Hermione Granger shared her excitement for the reunion on social media, writing:

“Harry Potter was my home, my family, my world and Hermione (still is) my favorite fictional character of all time. I think a journalist once said it was irritating how many times during an interview I mentioned how lucky I was and started counting… BUT I DAMN WELL KNEW!!! And still know.

“I am proud not just of what we as group contributed as actors to the franchise but also as the children that became young adults that walked that path. I look at my fellow cast members now and I am just so proud of who everyone has become as people. I am proud we were kind to each other that we supported one another and that we held up something meaningful.”

Continuing, she added praise for the fans for keeping the show and magic alive, as well as to everyone who goes unmentioned but worked hard on the movies.

“Thank you to the fans that have continued to show their support well after the last chapter closed. The magic of the world wouldn’t exist without you. Thank you for fighting to make it such an inclusive and loving place.

I still miss the crew who made these films all the time. Thank you for all of your hard work too – I know your contributions sometimes get overlooked.”

Roll on Jan 1st, what a way to welcome the New Year.
