Those who were excited to see Love Island return this winter will be waiting, as the show has confirmed that all production will not kick off until summer 2021.

In a statement to the Mail Online, ITV confirmed that there will be no South African helping from the show this Christmas, stating:

“Love Island UK will return bigger and better than ever with an extended run in summer 2021.”

With planning for the winter series going ahead up until recent weeks, the network has now decided to scrap all plans. This has come after production and crew realised that with social distancing measures and the pandemic still ongoing, it wouldn’t be feasible to shoot properly or to the standard they desire.

The last time Love Island was on our screens was earlier this year in Cape Town, when Finn Tapp and Paige Turley were crowned our winners.

Since then, we now have confirmation that both the summer 2020 and winter 2021 series will not go ahead however, a summer 2021 show is set to air, starting in June 2021 and rumoured for a potential eight to nine week run.

Speaking about cancelling this year’s summer series, director of television at ITV, Kevin Lygo said:

“We have tried every which way to make Love Island this summer but logistically it’s just not possible to produce it in a way that safeguards the wellbeing of everyone involved and that for us is the priority.”

And so, with similar issues surrounding production of the winter series, we’re hoping all gets the green light for June and we’ll have Love Island back on our screens sooner rather than later.
