Katja Mia is killing it at the moment. From her time as a presenter on Ireland AM, to taking over the Six O’ Clock Show with co-host Brian Dowling, she is now smashing on the dancefloor in this year’s Dancing with the Stars.

When you’re doing well in life, there will always be someone who wants to bring you down. Katja unfortunately experienced this first hand during the week when she received a nasty Instagram DM commenting on her body.

Posting a screenshot of the mean-spirited message to her Instagram story, Katja responded saying, “body shaming is sooooo 2010…” and that negative comments about her body are “especially disappointing when it comes from another woman…”

The 27-year-old then went on to talk about how there’s still a long way to go for the representation of different body types in the media.

Some women, like the commenter, are “still so uncomfortable and bothered’ by the presence of curvy women on their television screens.”

While we are often told that society has become more accepting and inclusive, there is a lot of work to be done to undo what we have been taught about the ‘ideal body type’.

Katja provided some words of wisdom to her 45 thousand Instagram followers on the importance of ignoring body shaming comments and staying true to yourself.

“I’m not the regular body type but I’m still hot, and I’m gonna keep representing for the curvy girlies,” she said.

As she should!

Katja will have undoubtedly gained some supporters on the back of this saga as she faces into the fourth week of Dancing with the Stars this Sunday.
