Laura Whitmore has shared her excitement to take on the role of Love Island host for the second year in a row.

The first time we saw the Bray native take to the screen was when she stood in last minute for Caroline Flack on the debut winter season of the show, airing back in January 2020.

Caroline Flack stepped down from the show following an assault charge in late 2019, the star later passed away after taking her own life in February 2020, just as the winter Love Island show was coming to a close.

Now, with the show returning to the air for the first summer season since Caroline’s passing and the pandemic began, it’s set to be an emotional one for all the staff and crew involved, including for Laura Whitmore who knows she’s got big shoes to fill.

Sharing her excitement to see new singles enter the villa, the new mum-of-one also admitted that she hopes they do the late presenter proud with the new summer season coming from Mallorca.

“I think we’re all ready for some love! Ahhhhhh! So excited to watch the new islanders,” revealed Laura.

Adding to her caption, the former MTV host made a note of the #BeKind movement which started after Caroline’s passing, reminding people to be kind online and remember their actions and words – even via a screen – have consequences.

“Hope you enjoy talking about them and following their journey and just a reminder to treat them with love, compassion and respect when they leave the show and go back to real life. Caroline I hope we do you proud. One week to go,” the 36-year-old added.

Love Island returns to Virgin Media Television this June, Monday 28th, at 9pm.
