Pretty Little Liar’s star Lucy Hale broke down on Instagram this week after she revealed to fans that her latest show and Riverdale spin-off, Katy Keene was axed after season one.
Admitting that it took “several takes” to break the news, Lucy Hale appeared teary eyed as she noted that she’s a “blubbering mess”.
Broadcaster CW cancelled the show and Lucy thought it was best that she informed fans with a heartfelt three minute video.
“I kind of struggled all day with what I wanted to say about this, or if I shouldn’t say anything, but nothing felt right,” Lucy began.
Continuing, the star noted that she didn’t know the best way to go about breaking the news, but knew she didn’t want to just “post a picture”.
“Nothing would do justice to how I feel about Katy Keene, or how I feel about the people involved with it. Truly, one of the highlights of my life.”

Explaining the difficulties of being an actor, Lucy went on to reveal that this was one of those heartbreaking situations that unfortunately, happens often in the entertainment world.
“A job that has broken my heart numerous times. This is bad, this is a bad one,” revealed Lucy.
Continuing to cry, the star laughed at the fact that people are probably switching off her story, but didn’t end the video without thanking the creators and cast again.
Deadline notes that the show is now looking for a new home, which may be HBO Max where the show is currently streaming.
A sad time for Katy Keene and fans of the show.
Netflix has also cancelled a good few of its new shows already this year. Ice skating drama Spinning Out which premiered on January 1, 2020 was cancelled after season one. Messiah, which also premiered on the same day as Spinning Out was also cut after season one, upsetting many fans.
And lastly, one of the latest shows to get the chopping block, Next In Fashion starring Alexa Chung and Queer Eye’s Tan France was also axed after season one.
Like many industries, the film and TV biz is feeling the struggles due to the coronavirus pandemic, with many movies and productions either holding off filming or cancelling moving forward; but unfortunately, like Lucy said, it’s just part of the industry.
Here’s hoping that’s the end of it for now though, we can’t take the heartbreak!
