Netflix is set to increase the cost of subscription services in Ireland.

Seeing an increase to two of its three plans, Netflix will be charging customers an additional fee of €1 – €2 per month for its standard and premium packages.

The standard plan – which allows users to view content on two screens at the same time will rise by €1 to €12.99 per month.

While the premium plan – which lets users stream content on four devices at once is set to increase by €2 to €17.99 per month.

The only plan unaffected by the price hike is the basic plan, which Netflix noted will remain at €7.99 a month.

As reported by The Irish Times, a Netflix spokesperson explained the reasoning behind the increase, saying it “reflects the significant investments we’ve made in new TV shows and films, as well as improvements to our product.”

As the UK and Ireland is an extremely profitable market for Netflix, the company explained that its putting in large investment to keep updating and creating new content for the service.

Netflix users will also not be surprised by the price increase with all existing users being notified in the app or by email one month ahead of the increase.

Netflix is now available in 190 countries with over 195 million subscribers.
