Nobody Wants This is set to return to our screens for a second season! Netflix has been teasing the show’s awaited return and recently announced its renewal for season twol.

Originally premiering in September of 2024, the newest season is currently in the works with new cast and directors, including Leighton Meester and Miles Fowler. With no official release date or synopsis, fans are left to speculate what will happen between the contrasting couple featuring agnostic Joanne (Kristen Bell) and kind-hearted rabbi Noah (Adam Brody).

What we know so far is that Meester is set to appear as Abby, Joanne’s middle-school nemesis, who is now a trendy mom blog influencer. Lenny, Noah’s Matzah baller teammate is confirmed to be played by Fowler. Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan will executive produce and showrun season two.

Chatting about the newest season, Brody said: “What should he do? What should she do? What version of sacrifice is worth it? What constitutes growth, or what constitutes dimming yourself to be with someone else? It is a sacrifice, but ideally, you grow together, and you are better for it — you do not have to off a limb.”

This philosophical approach contemplates how much it is worth to change yourself to be with another person. Newcomer Kaplan remarks that he is “excited beyond belief to be a part of season two” and that he is already having the best time being a part of the show.

For background, season one followed Noah, a newly single rabbi, who feels an instant connection to relationship podcaster, Joanne. The series follows the unlikely connection between the two, the struggles they overcome due to their differences, and the challenges they face due to their meddling families.

The religious divide between the pair becomes apparent when Joanne admits she is not ready to convert to Judaism, and so they pair part ways. Their separation is short lived after Noah’s grand gesture in the car park at a bat mitzvah.

Season two is set to further divulge into the complications and tensions between Joanne’s agnosticism and the stark contrast of Noah’s heavily religious familial background. After leaving his rabbi position to be with Joanne, tensions are high, and the stakes are higher.

Will Noah’s devotion continue into the second season or will Brody’s character return to his close-knit familial ways? Season two is set to pick up where season one left off. Although not being the same night, it will roughly follow the same timeline as season one.

Netflix were cautious about including large time jumps to allow the story to unfold naturally, and similarly they’ll push for a similar pacing for the newest season. After all, the lack of cuts and jumps helps the viewer to fully immerse themselves in the bumps and rough patches experienced throughout the pair’s relationship.

Jackie Tohn, who played Esther in season one, has teased that viewers will witness the couple move into “realrelationship territory.  She also called season one “a dreamland” compared to the struggles the pair will tackle in the upcoming season.

Creator Erin Foster has confirmed that she already has big plans for season three, though season two’s filming has barely begun. She’s invested in the show’s longevity, admitting her ideas to pitch season three alongside season two.

Filming for season two is speculated to have commenced in February, but with no confirmation of this, viewers are left yearning for more, especially with the tease of season three in the works.
