It’s been nearly two years since The Crown last graced our screens, and while Emma Corrin and Josh O’Connor’s stellar performances held us over for quite a while, we are dying for another season of Netflix’s hit period drama.

We did know some details about the upcoming series, with the queen being played by none other than Imelda Staunton, best known for her role in Harry Potter as Dolores Umbridge, while Princess Diana will be played by Elizabeth Debicki, a relatively unknown Australian actress who passes a striking resemblance to the late princess when she’s all done up for the role.

And we’ve just gotten another massive update on the show, to satisfy our Crown cravings. As they have just cast their versions of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Newcomer Meg Bellamy will take on the role of Kate. Sharing the good news on Instagram, she wrote: “Pinch me please..So excited to announce that I will be playing Kate Middleton in Series 6 of Netflix’s ‘The Crown’.
“It is such an honour to be joining the most incredible cast and crew, and I will strive to do Kate justice. “

And as for Prince William, he will be portrayed by two actors as his character ages.

With a teenage William being played by 15-year-old Rufus Kampa, while Ed McVey will play the prince during his college years.

And making things even more exciting is the way Meg and Rufus were discover. According to Deadline, the pair sent in self-taped videos following a casting call on social. Considering how many people most have applied it’s basically a modern day Cinderella story, minus the glass slipper.

The next season of The Crown will be arriving before the end of the year. But it seems we might still have a while to wait.

As when Ed was sharing the news of his casting, he revealed, the show wasn’t finished filming yet.

Saying: “Ahhhhh the big news is now out!!! I’m absolutely buzzing to be given the opportunity to play Prince William in #thecrown in Series 6!!! Along side the amazing [Meg Bellamy] Gunna be an amazing shoot can’t wait to learn all I can!”

Guess we’ll just have to settle for a re-watch until season five lands on Netflix.
