The Upcoming Madonna Biopic Has Cast Its Leading Lady

There’s a new Material Girl in town, and she’s about to channel the old one!

Inventing Anna’s Julia Garner is about to take on the role of Madonna in an upcoming bio pic Universal confirmed to E! News. The film is still in development so there’s no set filming schedule yet but having the lead role cast is a great start.

According to Variety, Julia stood out among over twelve hopefuls including Alexa Demie, Odessa Young and Emma Laird, Madonna herself even teased that Florence Pugh was in the running for the role last year!

The film will follow the life of Madonna, with the singer as writer and director of the film, working alongside Oscar-winning  screen writer, Diablo Cody.

In a statement in 2020 when the film was first announced Madonna said, “I want to convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer — a human being, trying to make her way in this world…The focus of this film will always be music. Music has kept me going and art has kept me alive. There are so many untold and inspiring stories and who better to tell it than me. It’s essential to share the roller coaster ride of my life with my voice and vision.”

Julia is best known for her roles in Inventing Anna and OZARK and now that they say it, we can see a striking resemblance to the queen of pop!
