This Healthy Food Is Apparently The Worst Thing You Can Eat For Breakfast
Fortunately, it's not all bad news.
We grab one both pre- and post-workout, eat ’em when we’re feeling pickish but want to be ‘good’ and most importantly, grab one when we’re rushing out the door in the morning and don’t have time for a proper breakfast, but here’s the bad news: bananas are actually one of the worst things you can eat for your brekkie. Sob.
Why so? According to Dr. Daryl Gioffre, it’s all because they’re loaded with sugar. “Bananas seem like the perfect option to grab and go in the morning,” he explains to Byrdie, “but with a closer look, you’ll find that bananas eaten alone aren’t the best option because they’re 25% sugar and moderately acidic.”
Add to that, because bananas are so acidic they’re unlikely to keep you full until lunch, meaning you’ll probably be hungry again soon after eating one.
Thankfully though, it’s not all bad news. Dr. Gioffre says you can still enjoy bananas, just so long as you pair them with a healthy fat. This helps to neutralise the acids, meaning you’ll get all the benefits of bananas (think potassium, fibre and energy) without the later crash and the cravings.
