Although the upcoming live-action Barbie movie isn’t even out until next year, we just can’t seem to stop ourselves from talking about it, particularly the cast.
It’s no word of a lie to say that Margot Robbie, who will be playing Barbie and Ryan Gosling who will portray Ken are perfect for these roles, with the pair breaking the internet after images of them in costume were first revealed. But how exactly did this casting come about?
Well for Ryan it was apparently a very easy decision, and moviegoers may have his daughter to thank for that!

Chatting on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the father of two expressed his love for the script, which was co-written and directed by Greta Gerwig. And although he was emailed an offer for the part, he also received a sign in the form of his daughter playing.
“I walk out in the backyard and, do you know where I found Ken, Jimmy? Face down in the mud next to a squished lemon,” so he decided to take a photo of the shocking discovery and texted it to Greta saying, “I shall be your Ken, for this story must be told.”
While doing press for his latest movie “The Gray Man”, the Hollywood actor couldn’t help but stick up for Ken, after describing him as having no home and no job.“Those are not plot details. These are just objective facts about Ken. That’s the Ken life.”

The movie has been in development for eight years and underwent several changes, with even Amy Schumer and Anne Hathaway being considered for the role of Barbie during previous iterations. Some of the supporting cast you can expect to see included America Ferrera, Simu Liu, Kate McKinnon, Ariana Greenblatt, Alexandra Shipp and Will Ferell.
And even though we have some time to kill before having our screens painted pink, we can’t wait to see what the movie has in store for us come next July!
