Season six of The Crown is currently being filmed and will hopefully return to our screens soon, but while the show might be returning, one of its stars reportedly won’t be.

As Gillian Anderson seemingly won’t be returning to the series to reprise her role as Margaret Thatcher.

Gillian portrayed the Prime Minister is season four of the period drama, and received rave reviews from critics and fans alike. So much so, the creators were hoping she would return as the character for an upcoming episode following Queen Elizabeth’s golden wedding anniversary.

But, alas, Gillian won’t be back in the show, after rejecting their offer.

With a source telling The Mirror: “Gillian’s portrayal of Thatcher was met with global critical acclaim and she was a huge asset to The Crown.”

“It had been hoped she would be able to make an appearance in scenes around the golden wedding but sadly that has not been the case due to scheduling issues.”

“It’s been another blow for producers in what’s already been a fairly dogged production.”

But it sounds as though her absence won’t be too noticeable with the writers coming up with a plan.

“As ever with the series, clever scripting will mean viewers will be none the wiser,” the source confessed.
