This Year’s Top Pizza Toppings Have Been Revealed

Fan of a pizza? Of course you are.

Fan of a topping on a pizza? You better be.  Toppings make the ‘za. They’re delicious, they’re diverse, and they’re sure to make any pizza even more delicious.

But what are the most popular toppings ordered in Ireland? we hear you cry. Well, Domino’s have just released their inaugural Taste of the Nation report, and it’s included the top 10 list of most ordered toppings, as well as the country’s favourite sides, and topping combination trends.

Pepperoni emerged victorious, with a staggering 951,259 orders for the spicy sausage. Coming in at No. 2 is roast chicken, with over 561,905 orders, and next on the list in ham, with just over 560k requests.

The most requested toppings this year include:

1. Pepperoni- 951,259
2. Roast Chicken – 561,905
3. Ham – 560,176
4. Sweetcorn – 478,151
5. Onions – 387,932
6. Mushrooms- 355,004
7. Green and Red Peppers – 343,522
8. Bacon – 304,321
9. Tandoori Chicken – 289,322
10. Green Jalapeños- 286,522

The report also uncovered some interesting Irish pizza preferences, with Garlic Pizza Bread being the most popular side dish, and tandoori chicken knocking controversial pineapple out of the top ten – delish.

The provinces have also revealed some interesting combinations and order trends. In Leinster, a surprising 33% of people are into smoked salmon and cream cheese on their pizza.

In Munster, 69% of people love a tomato sauce base, and in Connacht, half of people believe that eating your pizza with a knife and fork is acceptable.

In Ulster, a whopping 97.6% of orderers adore pepperoni. This unwavering dedication to pepperoni is so strong that Ulster is also the most likely province to order pizza when hungover. Nice.

Sam Wilson, Domino’s Taste Trend Analyst at Domino’s says: “Whether it’s Roast or Tandoori Chicken, Pepperoni Passion or plain old Cheese + Tomato, there’s no right or wrong way to enjoy your pizza.

“If anything, the research highlights there’s more ways than ever to enjoy a slice of the action. As a proven mood booster on the day after the night before, or satisfying the weird and wonderful tastes of the nation, it can’t be denied Domino’s is the ultimate crowd pleaser.”
