What’s Going On With Nella Rose And Fred Sirieix?

Last night’s I’m A Celeb was…awkward, to say the least.

In a very uncomfortable miscommunication between First Date’s Fred and YouTuber Nella Rose, the pair ended up embroiled in a drama that probably could have been resolved by a good old fashioned Love Island style chat.

The difficulty arose when Fred was cooking around the fire, and Nella was hanging around nearby.

Joking that he isn’t exactly a spring chicken anymore at 51 years old, Fred said to Nella, “Yeah, but I’m not 26 anymore, am I? I could be your dad.”

Nella seemed to bristle at Fred’s comment, and responded, “No, my dad was way older than you,” to which Fred said, “Yeah, but I could still be your dad.”

Later, in a confessional, Nella explained that she took Fred’s comment to be disrespectful, as she had confided in him earlier that her dad had passed away in 2020.

“I didn’t say anything last night because I was kind of just annoyed about it. So, I slept on it, and I kind of thought about it and I was just like, ‘This is not the kind of person I want to be around’.”

In the morning, when Fred approached Nella unaware of any conflict between them, the YouTuber told him to “leave her alone”.

“Yesterday, when I wanted to burn fat that you were going to throw out anyway, you turned around to me with an attitude and said, ‘You know I could be your dad, right?'”, Nella began.

She continued, “To me, I don’t care how you said it – to me, that’s disrespectful, and I don’t want to talk to you… I don’t want to be around you. I only allow people to disrespect me once.”

“Don’t bring up my dead parent, are you stupid? ‘You know I could be your dad right?’ You’re a weirdo,” she went on.

Fred was stunned by Nella’s comments, and told her he had no idea that he had “unwillingly” offended her.

“First of all, I am sorry I have offended you. I am unaware that you felt offended,” he said.

“I am unaware that what I said would lead to this conversation. I only said that in a way because I am older than you. I’m 51 and you’re 26.”

Nella interjected Fred’s apology, saying “I’m not stupid, you’re not going to little girl me, you’re not,” to which Fred replied, “”Nella, it wasn’t like that at all…

“I made a mistake and I said something and I offended you, I’m really sorry. I’m really sorry you feel like this.”

The conversation closed with Nella telling Fred, “In order for us to live in this camp together, I don’t want to eat no food that you’re cooking, don’t talk to me, you stay over there, I stay over here and we can live.”

Viewers of the show on Twitter (now X) were tweeting like crazy in response to the interaction.

This morning, #PoorFred was trending.

Some felt that Nella’s reaction was overblown, while others pointed out that however she copes with her grief is valid.
