What’s Occurring? A Gavin And Stacey Special Is On The Way After Nine Years

James Cordon confirmed the news this week!

It’s somehow been nine years since Gavin and Stacey finished up and there hasn’t really been a show like it to fill its place.

So we were incredibly excited to see James Cordon announce that he and Ruth Jones have been working on a one-off special for Christmas.

“Ruth Jones and I have been keeping this secret for a while… We’re excited to share it with you. See you on Christmas Day,” he said alongside a pic of the script.

Ruth and James were not only the brains behind the hilarious lovely show, but they also played the iconic Smithy and Nessa.

It might be hard to see James Cordon as Smithy again without thinking of him as the carpooling chat show host almost a decade on, but we reckon they’ll make it work.

Speaking about the new special James and Ruth said: “Over the last ten years we’ve talked a lot about Gavin and Stacey – where they might be today and what their lives might look like. And so in secret we took the plunge and wrote this one hour special. We’ve loved revisiting Barry and Essex again and bringing the characters back together has been a joy. We’re so excited to get the chance to work with our fabulous cast and crew once more and to give fans of the show a festive treat this Christmas. Thank you BBC for helping to make this happen.”

When we left the lovable couples, Smithy had just run in on Nessa’s wedding professing his love for her, leading her to walk out on poor Neil, and, flash forward six months, the two are seen sitting on a beach in Barry with Gavin and a pregnant Stacey. Aww!

We can’t wait to see what they’re up to in 2019!
