YASSS! Meryl Streep Is Joining Big Little Lies Season Two!

Just when we thought the show couldn't get any better.

Could you think of any better news to wake up to on a Thursday morning other than Meryl Streep joining the Big Little Lies team? We think not.

As if the star studded cast couldn’t get any better, leading ladies Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman and Shailene Woodley will be joined by the Oscar/Emmy-winning actress for season two of the HBO series.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Meryl will play Mary Louise Wright, mother to Perry Wright (Alexander Skarsgard) who (SPOILER alert!) died in season one of the David E. Kelley series based on the popular Liane Moriarty novel. Meryl’s character will arrive in Monterey to search for answers to her son’s death and look after her two grandsons.

HBO has said that season two will consist of seven episodes and will explore the “malignancy of lies, the durability of friendships, the fragility of marriage and, of course, the vicious ferocity of sound parenting. Relationships will fray, loyalties will erode… the potential for emotional and bodily injury shall loom.”

Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman will continue to executively produce the series, this season being joined by Andrea Arnold who will direct and executively produce all seven episodes.

Fans of the show as well as Reese Witherspoon herself have taken to Twitter to express their excitement at Streep joining the cast.

As if we weren’t excited enough, rumours are circulating that our favourite villain Perry Wright (Alexander Skarsgard) will return to the show for it’s second season, despite his apparent death in season one. The actor told NBC at the recent Golden Globe Awards that he doesn’t “even know if I’m really dead or not. I feel okay right now but we’ll see”.

All we know is that season two’s release in 2019 can’t come quick enough!
