Maybe it’s because it’s always mentioned on American TV shows, or the massive star-studded half-time performances or its takeover of social media. But, while most of us actually know next to nothing about American football, that doesn’t stop the Super Bowl Sunday excitement.
The Super Bowl is one of America’s biggest sporting events as its the championship of the National Football League. It also helps that it’s a pop culture gold mine.
This year’s game was between the Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Rams. With the Rams winning 23 – 20, marking the teams second ever victory. The MVP (Most Valued Player) title was awarded to the Rams’ Cooper Kupp.

And while the match obviously occupied everyone’s minds, it was the iconic half-time show that had people talking. The performance is a prestigious honour in the music world, with the likes of Katy Perry, Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, and The Weekend all having performed there before.
This year the honour went to Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar. Together they have 43 Grammys and 22 Billboard no.1 albums. So it would be hard to imagine a more star-studded lineup.
But the Super Bowl actually managed that, as 50 Cent made a surprise appearance during the performance.
During their performance, Eminem made a strong stance by taking a knee. A demonstration against racism that was popularised by Colin Kaepernick, a footballer who famously kneeled rather than standing for their national anthem in 2016 during an American Football game.

With music’s biggest names performing, and a tense match being played, nothing else that noteworthy could have happened… right?
Not the case! The Ram’s had more than one reason to celebrate last night, as team member Van Jefferson welcomed a second child during the game. And we mean DURING as in his wife Samaria was seen leaving the stadium in a stretcher while he was playing
That was indeed Van Jefferson’s pregnant wife Samaria our Bridget saw leaving SoFi Stadium and headed to the hospital, as her husband and his #Rams teammates try to pull off a Super Bowl comeback. https://t.co/9Pddulza5v

Van had no time to celebrate his victory as the minute the game ended, he and his daughter rushed out to meet Samaria at the hospital. Her original due date was the 17th of February, but it seems their baby boy was feeling that Super Bowl excitement.
An absolutely massive congratulations to the pair!
Meanwhile, seeing as it was an LA team playing in the championship, plenty of Hollywood’s biggest stars showed up to celebrate.
