Zac Efron has been subject to rumours of plastic surgery recently as a video of him went viral with people claiming he looked a lot different than before, but now the actor is setting the record straight.

In an interview with Men’s Health he spoke about the viral story and why his chin and jaw really looked a bit swollen at the time. He explained that he slipped in his home and smashed his chin off a granite fountain, ouch.

This led to his “chin bone hanging off his face” once he regained consciousness. And while recovering he explained that the muscles inside of his face and jaw grew  to “compensate” for the injury, causing him to look a little different. “The masseters just grew. They just got really, really big,” he said.

Zac went on to say that he didn’t know there was so much speculation about his face until his mother called him to ask about the plastic surgery rumours.

In the interview, the former High School Musical star also revealed that he suffered mentally after his 2017 movie Baywatch, during which he transformed his body with training to achieve the “Baywatch look” and compete with his co-star Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.

He explained, “I started to develop insomnia…and I fell into a pretty bad depression, for a long time. Something about that experience burned me out. I had a really hard time recentering. Ultimately they chalked it up to taking way too many diuretics for way too long, and it messed something up.”

“That Baywatch look, I don’t know if that’s really attainable. There’s just too little water in the skin. Like, it’s fake; it looks CGI’d. And that required Lasix, powerful diuretics, to achieve. So I don’t need to do that. I much prefer to have an extra, you know, 2 to 3 percent body fat.” he continued.

During the Pandemic Efron moved to Australia and didn’t pay too much attention to his physique, “What if I just say, ‘F–k it’ and let myself go?'” he said. Although he said when he did he felt “miserable,” “bogged down and slow.”

Men’s Health explained that after this Zac continued to train but was mindful about his body.
