Zac Efron Would Be ‘Honoured’ To Play Matthew Perry In A Biopic
"He was a mentor to me"
Zac Efron has said he would be “honoured” to play Matthew Perry in a biopic film, after learning that Matthew himself said he’d have liked Zac in the role.
The Charlie St Cloud star spoke to People about the late actor while on the red carpet for his new film, The Iron Claw.
“I’m honoured to hear he was thinking of me to play him,” he told the publication. “We’ll see. I’d be honoured to do it.”

Zac then continued to reminisce on his relationship with Matthew, who died on October 28th of this year, aged 54.
“He was a mentor to me, and we made a really cool film together,” he said, noting that he was “devastated” to learn of Matthew’s death.
“I looked up to him, I learned comedic timing from that guy,” he confessed.

“I mean, when we were filming 17 Again, it was so surreal for me to look across and have him be there, because I’ve learned so much from him, from his whole life.”
In the hilarious and heartwarming 17 Again, Zac played the younger version of Matthew Perry’s character, a middle aged man who wakes up in his teenage body.
The idea of Zac playing the real life Matthew would make a lot of sense – the latter certainly thought so.

People reports that Athenna Crosby, an entertainment reporter who dined with Matthew the day before he died, had confirmed this to them previously.
Athenna said that Matthew “wanted to make a movie about his life and have a biopic made”, adding that he “wanted Zac Efron, who’s played him already, to play him again because he said he did such a good job.”
Our hearts. We hope they can make this happen – what a lovely tribute to Matthew.
