Zara Holland Has Been Given A £4k Fine For Breaching COVID Rules

The 25-year-old missed out on a possible one-year jail time

Last week it came to light that ex Love Island star Zara Holland and her boyfriend Elliot love came in direct breach of coronavirus regulations while holidaying in Barbados.

While there, it is believed that the two tested positive for COVID-19 and were immediately given wristbands to state their positive status while waiting to be moved to a quarantine centre. The two then allegedly cut off their bands and attempted to flee the country, but were stopped by authorities in the airport and moved to the centre.

The reality star has since appeared in court today after breaching the countries rules and putting other’s lives in danger. It is reported by MailOnline that Zara pled guilty to one charge of breaching Barbados’ Covid-19 quarantine regulations.

It has also been reported that Zara has missed out on a possible one-year prison sentence, or £18,000 fine for the breach, as is in line with the rules in Barbados. Instead, she has been faced with a £4,417 fine, which if she fails to pay within one week she had allegedly been told that she will face prison time of nine months.

Zara is yet to speak out on her court decision, but following the news of her flouting last week she released a statement that stated that there was a big ‘mix up and misunderstanding’.

“I firstly wish to apologise to the entire country of Barbados for what has been a massive mix up and misunderstanding during my most recent stay.”

“I am currently working with the local authorities to rectify any issues on my part and will issue an update and full statement which I think is the only right thing to do to the Government and citizens of Barbados”

She added: “I have been a guest of this lovely island in excess of 20 years and would never do anything to jeopardise an entire nation that I have nothing but love and respect for and which has treated me as a family.”
