7 Signs Your ‘Friend With Benefits’ Is Leading To Something More

Ah, the friend with benefits. We’ve all had one. It’s the late night, “I got drunk with the girls and now I’m horny” routine. The two-way booty call. The no-strings-attached, sex-is-better-than-ever situation. The “I won’t have your off-spring but I’ll screw you like I want to” kind of thing.

Let’s be honest, maintaining a FWB ain’t easy; there’s always that chance of someone developing feelings and wondering why a relationship is out of the question. Whether you want to be involved or not is up to you ladypal, but here are seven clear signs that you are heading into more-than-bed-buddies territory.

1. You’ve left the bedroom 

It sounds harsh, but a relationship amongst FWBs is meant to stay in the bedroom. Bottom line, leaving the gaff together is a clear sign that things are getting serious. Think about it: not only are you going to bed with this guy, but now you’re going to Nandos, or worse, a fun activity like bowling. Bowling is a date. And the only thing you’re missing at this point is a label because, let’s face it, you’re slowly edging towards that ‘ship status.

2. You’re over-thinking things

Reading into that extra x at the end of his message, or questioning why he’s taking longer than usual to text back? You’re either catching feelings for him, or you’re just ready for a real relationship in general.

3. You’ve met the lads

If he wants his mates to see you with him, it’s a sure sign you’re close to the girlfriend category. Yup, if he’s deliera to pop you in a group setting with the lads around in full blown banter mode, he’s certainly staking a claim to your commitment together.

4. You’re lonely when he’s not around

Your bed feels empty when he’s not in it, and that means he could be sleeping over way too much. FWBs are for the weekend, and maybe an occasional Wednesday to, ahem, honour hump day. But that’s it, so if he’s ’round yours on the regular it may be time to question where things are going.

5. Private language

He’ll create private jokes, nicknames, and other banter that create intimacy between the two of you. It’s a known fact that guys feel more comfortable being affectionate early in a relationship when it’s cloaked in humour, so if he’s jesting you on the reg it could be a major hint that he’s into you in a big way.

6. He’s eager to please during sex

He tries hard to please you by paying attention to your signals, or asking point blank what feels good. Plus there’s lots of eye contact, using your name, and letting you know how turned on he is. Add to that, he’s affectionate too. Think holding your hands, giving hugs and touching you during conversation.

7. He’s there even when your lady flow is in town

When it’s our time of the month, we vanish like period ninjas and we don’t reappear to our FWB until everything is good to go. But if your guy hangs out with you during your period, (i.e when sex is off the cards) he definitely isn’t just in it for the, er, bump and grind.
