Daisy Edgar Jones is to play Elinor Dashwood in a new film adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic, Sense and Sensibility – and we can’t think of better casting.
Here’s everything we know about the new adaptation.
The Normal People actress took to Instagram to spread the news last week, snapping a selfie posing with the novel.
250 years since the birth of “Britain’s greatest author” has been marked with society balls, TV shows, and now a new adaptation of Austen’s novel in the works.
The first adaptation of Sense and Sensibility in 1995 starred Emma Thompson as Elinor, Kate Winslet as Marianne, Hugh Grant as Edward Ferrars and Alan Rickman as Colonel Brandon.

The period drama explores themes of romance, heartbreak, betrayal and most of all sisterhood. The story follows two sisters after the death of their father and the grief they battle, while trying to survive with no fortune to inherit.
At the moment, Edgar Jones is the only confirmed actress to be starring in the upcoming drama. Australian author Diana Reid, best known for Love & Virtue and Seeing Other People, will be writing the script.
It will also be directed Georgia Oakley, best known for her film, Blue Jean. Filming begins next month, produced by Focus Features and Working Title Films, the studios behind Pride & Prejudice (2005).
Reid expressed her excitement on instagram, calling the opportunity โastonishingโ and saying she’s โstill pinching herselfโ.
