4 Deadly DIY Treatments To Do If You’re Staying In This Weekend
Baby, it's cold outside, so we're shunning the pub and having an at-home pamper sesh instead.
It’s bloody freezing and we can’t bring ourselves to go out this weekend. Instead, we’ve found the best DIY treatments that you can do from the comfort of your own couch. What’s even better? You probably won’t have to go further than your kitchen to find the ingredients. Perfect.
Puffy and tired eyes
There are many reasons we wake up with puffy eyes including lack of proper sleep, an unbalanced diet, and even changes in the weather. Soak green teabags in the fridge in iced water for an hour and voila; you have your treatment. The caffeine helps to shrink the appearance of blood vessels and the antioxidants eliminate inflammation. Alternatively, you can use loose tea leaves and soak cotton wool pads in the cold water. Leave them on for 20 minutes and you’ll already notice the difference.
Dehydrated/ frizzy hair
All you’ll need for this is half a banana, a tablespoon of honey and a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar. Mash the banana until completely smooth and then blend in your vinegar and honey. Apply to clean, damp hair and let sit for a minimum of 20 minutes before rinsing out. The banana and honey work wonders for locking in moisture and the apple cider removes buildup and enhances your shine. You can follow the process with your normal conditioner for extra TLC.
Cracked heels
Cracked heels and feet occur as a result of many things including a lack of moisture, colder weather and standing for long hours. Fill a basin with warm water (not too hot as that will dry them out further) and add the juice of half a lemon to the water. Lemon has an acidic property which helps to remove the dead skin cells that cause cracking in your feet. Soak for 15 minutes. After you have dried your feet fully, coat them in vegetable oil, olive oil, or coconut oil and put your feet immediately into a pair of socks. The oil provides essential moisture and masks your feet from the cold air. This treatment is best done in the evening as you can leave the socks on overnight. You’ll notice an improvement in the morning.
Dry skin
Once every now and again, you need to give your body a full scrub. It removes the dead cells that clog your skin, giving space for the fresh cells below. It will also leave your skin feeling and looking fresh, soft and healthy. For this you’ll need one cup of brown sugar, one cup of raw porridge and one cup of olive oil. Mix the ingredients together and apply liberally to your skin, rubbing it on in circular movements. After scrubbing gently all over, step into the shower and rinse off. Your skin will feel like butter.
