According To A Dating App Employee, This One Thing Could Be Ruining Your Online Profile
It's something that's often overlooked.
You’ve uploaded your allocated six photos, set your ideal specifications and started swiping, but unfortunately the matches aren’t rolling in.
Well, while too many selfies can often be to blame, Bumble’s director of creative writing and brand copywriter, Alex Williamson, says that it’s often your bio that’s the bugbear.
The problem? Well it might just be a bit too dry.
“If you have a sense of humour, you have to show it because it leads to conversations,” Alex tells Refinery 29. “Sometimes, it’s fun to talk to someone who has good bullshit. It’s horrible to start off and have this awkward, ‘Hi, how are you?’, and it’s hard to get excited about someone unless you know the conversation is going to go well and be fun.”
Sounds pretty spot on, but what the hell should be put into your profile for maximum matches?

Well, the general consensus is that you should leave out anything unoriginal (that’s a no to including ‘loves long walks on the beach’ and ‘enjoys nights out and nights in’ then) and include something with a little quirk, to get the conversation going.
“One girl on our team has a question on her bio: ‘Which would you fuck, kill, or marry between queso, guacamole, and salsa?’” Alex recalls. “And I remember seeing one guy’s bio where he had a list of three things he enjoyed and one of those things was watching dogs back up. I still think about that — it’s hilarious! If you say something quirky, it can lead to conversation.”
If in doubt though, Tinder CEO Sean Rad tells GQ that the most important thing is to keep your profile short and sweet.
“Include a hobby or two, a quote from one of your favourite TV characters, what types of people you’d like to meet, or a fun fact,” he advises. “It’s not a bad idea to show how strong your emoji game is, either. While an obscure reference may puzzle some, it could also help find you the perfect match.”
Right then, so be quirky, keep it brief and include emojis.
Brb, off to edit our bios.
