Gwyneth Paltrow Would Change One Big Thing About Her Divorce If She Could
She famously 'consciously uncoupled' from Chris Martin in 2014.
Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin’s split and subsequent divorce remains one of the most amicable in recent celebrity history, but there are still a few things the pair would change if they had a do-over.
The couple’s divorce officially came through in June of this year, but the world knew about the split long before then, thanks to a post shared by Gwyneth on her lifestyle website, Goop, back in 2014, in which she announced that she and Chris were “consciously uncoupling” after eleven years of marriage.
Speaking to LinkedIn about the now-famous post, Gwyneth admitted that she might go about things a little differently if she was sharing similar news today.
“It sort of wouldn’t be appropriate now,” she acknowledged. “It [Goop] is a much bigger business and I’m not sure it would be the right place to do something like that. I’m not sure.”
Back in 2014, Goop was a much smaller operation, which many of the posts written by Gwyneth herself, usually in the first person. Two years on, the site is just about to launch its first apparel label, amasses around 3.75m page views per month, and has expanded its HQ from the UK into Los Angeles.
“It was a very, very personal project for a long time,” the actress says of the site, which she started back in 2008.
“Now if you read the content, it is not in the first person anymore. At the time, it was still very small and very personal. It was such a difficult time in my life and I was trying so hard to protect my children and my family, Chris included. We were both fragile. It was really tough. To me it felt like, ‘This is a quiet way to do this and it is contained.'”
In her headline-making 2014 post, Gwyneth explained that herself and Chris had been “working hard for well over a year… to see what might have been possible between us” but that they had “come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate.”
Since the split, Chris has been linked to actresses Jennifer Lawrence and Annabelle Wallis while Gwyneth has been dating Glee producer Brad Falchuk – who she met while starring on the show as substitute teacher Holly Holliday – for over a year.
