Sophie Turner And Maisie Williams Have Matching GOT Tattoos For A Very Cool Reason
Can we get one too?
Earning a role on Game of Thrones turned out to be a life-changing opportunity for Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner, and it’s something they want to remember forever.
The actresses both recently got matching inkings on their forearms, marking the date they each found out they had been cast in the HBO drama.
Speaking to E! on the Emmys red carpet last night, Sophie said it was a joint decision to mark the sixth anniversary of their casting date – and to celebrate the fact that they hadn’t been killed off yet.

“We’ve always kind of said we wanted matching tattoos,” she explained. “We don’t know if we’re going to make it [to the next series], so Maisie and I were like, ‘Let’s get these ones before anyone kills us.'”
Explaining the choice of numbers – 07.08.09, Sophie revealed to the confused US reporters that it meant August 7th 2009, not July 8th as it would Stateside.
“It’s quite a prominent date for both of us. It’s a day that both of our lives changed forever,” she said.
While Maisie’s inking is quite clearly visible, Sophie’s is less so, as it’s in a pale ink. Why? Well, because her mum said so. “I got it in peach because my mum was like, ‘Make sure it doesn’t show up,'” she recalled.
Game Of Thrones was nominated for a whopping 24 Emmys this year, including a Best Supporting Actress in A Drama Series nod for Maisie, which she lost out on to Downton Abbey‘s Dame Maggie Smith. However she still had her moment on stage, albeit with the rest of her cast members as they accepted the award for Best Drama.
Not a bad night’s work, so.
