Weekend Eats: These Are The Best Places To Eat Brunch In Dublin Right Now
Well, in our opinion anyway.
Sunday in Ireland used to be miserable. If your mum wasn’t whipping the duvet off you to make you get up for mass, you were bored silly because there was nothing to do all day. But then, you grew up and discovered brunch. Suddenly, life made sense. The ultimate – and definitely our favourite – portmanteau, this is the one meal that allows you to not only drink booze before 12pm but also makes it perfectly acceptable to combine savoury with sweet. In fact, it’s positively a requirement.
So what more could you ask for? Oh, we know: a definitive, exhaustive list of Ireland’s best breakfast-slash-lunching spots, that’s what. Consider this your ultimate guide to the best bacon, eggs, waffles and much, much more the country has to offer. We’ll just be over here, undoing our top button, because we take our research very, very seriously indeed.
First up, we’re looking at what’s on offer in Dublin. Stay tuned for the Leinster, Munster, Connacht and Ulster editions in the coming weeks!
Brother Hubbard
153 Capel St, Dublin 1
An all-day brunch that dares to be different, this cafe is a favourite of the STELLAR team. Lots of healthy, veggie options are available but the stand-out’s gotta be the Middle Eastern breakfast plate, with hummus, feta, cucumber, tomato and and eggs. Delish.
San Lorenzo’s
10 South Great George’s Street, Dublin 2
One of the city’s busiest brunches – the Brunch of Champions – try its unrivalled sugar-laden treats, like the US-inspired Coco pops crunchy French toast and New York Nutella baked cheesecake. But while it’s definitely one for the sweet-toothed, there are loads of savoury options too.
Herbstreet
Hanover Quay, Grand Canal Dock, Dublin 2
On a fine day, sit outside, take in all the action at Grand Canal Dock, and indulge in the Eggos Mexicalos, our fave thing to order. Also good is the Brunch platter: fresh fruit, Greek yoghurt with honey and granola plus home baked ham, cheese and bread makes for a very saintly start.
Whitefriar Grill
16 Aungier Street, Dublin 2
Can we count the hangovers this place has cured? The gambas Benedict, ribs ‘n’ rump (an 8oz rump steak, sticky BBQ ribs and chips) plus the black pudding waffles are all stand-outs here. Bring a meat-loving man. In our experience, men only love a plate filled to the brim with meat.
Super Miss Sue
2-3 Drury St, Dublin 2
Dublin’s brunch offering can be a bit samey – or at least it it was until SMS came along. The only fishy thing about the menu is, um, the menu. Bloody Marys with prawns, oysters, duck hash… it’s all delicious and different. And try to get some chips in – they are. To. Die. For.
Sophie’s at The Dean
33 Harcourt St, Dublin 2
Take the lift to the top for panoramic views of the city centre skyline and get a booth for the best view. Fab cocktails, a chic NYC vibe and delish dishes like the club sandwich and glazed chicken make this the ultimate girly brunching spot.
Cleaver East
6 Essex Street East, Dublin 2
Bringing the US concept of all you can drink (hic) the bottomless Mimosas – for an extra €15 – go down a treat here, as do the tunes from a resident DJ and treats like Nutella and Marshmallow Crepe, Toffee Popcorn and Vanilla Ice Cream. Yum!
