With just a few days until everyone’s favourite night in fashion of the year, we’ve rounded up some of our all-time favourite Met Gala looks.

The Met Gala has had some iconic looks over the years but it’s clear that some do stand out. While it is hard to narrow it down, we have chosen ten that stick out in our mind.

From simple and elegant to looks that are a full body workout to wear we’ve covered it all.

Let’s take a look!

Kendal Jenner 2021. Theme – In America: A Lexicon of Fashion

Kendal wore a semi-sheer, embellished gown featuring countless gems, inspired by Audrey Hepburn’s character in My Fair Lady to the Met Gala in 2021. The Givenchy gown is one of our favourites as it is a nod to Hepburn’s love for Givenchy and was right on theme. Everything down to the neckline and choker is perfect. We’re simply obsessed.

Christy Turlington 1992. Theme – Fashion and History: A Dialogue

This may seem a little simple but trust us, the Met Gala wasn’t always about the most daring look. This look shows the power of accessories and just how classic a black dress can be. The earrings, the hair, the shawl and most importantly the pearls. If you need any inspo on how to accessorize – this is it.

Kim Kardashian, 2019. Theme – Camp: Notes on Fashion

Best believe, Ms. Kardashian was serving camp at the 2019 Met Gala. The dress was Thierry Mugler’s first creation in over 20 years and it was worth the wait. The designer’s vision was “this California girl stepping out of the ocean, wet, dripping.” And we think they nailed the wet look. How iconic?

Kaia Gerber, 2021. Theme – In America: A Lexicon of Fashion

For her first ever Met Gala, model Kaia proved to the world she knows how to follow a theme. The model recreated Bianca Jagger’s 1981 met look originally created by Dior. Wearing a show-stopping black Oscar de La Renta ballgown with the most stunning detail on the bust she paid tribute to the queen of Studio 54, Bianca Jagger.

Rihanna, 2018. Theme – Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination

Arguably, the best year of looks at the met was 2018 and Rihanna nailed the theme. She wore a headdress traditionally worn by bishops, a bejeweled strapless mini dress with a matching collared robe by Maison Margiela Artisanal. The look was said to be extremely heavy with Rihanna joking in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, “It was heavy, every step was a squat.”

Hailey Bieber, 2019. Theme – Camp: Notes on Fashion

Alexa, play the thong song. This look created by Alexander Wang is the perfect Barbie camp dress. The flawless makeup and hair alone gives this look a place on our list. We’re obsessed with Hailey Bieber’s minimalist street style and always love to see her red carpet looks!

Blake Lively, 2018. Theme – Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination

Everyone’s queen of the Met Gala, Blake Lively, didn’t come to play when it came to her 2018 look. In the words of Carrie Bradshaw, “What is it about God and fashion that go so well together?” Whether it was her role on Gossip Girl or a higher power that makes her nail the Met Gala every year, we just can’t get over how she always matches the carpet perfectly.

Lizzo, 2022. Theme – In America: An Anthology of Fashion

Lizzo was a vision in Thom Brown at the 2022 Met Gala. She wore a hand-embroidered gold and black coat with a black, curve-hugging gown. She paired the dramatic look with a gold choker necklace and super long black nails. How beautiful.

Beyoncé, 2015. Theme – China: Through the Looking Glass

Queen Bee dominated the 2015 carpet in her custom made Givenchy gown. This dress was ahead of its time with the sheer material covered in embellishments. She let the dress speak for itself with no jewellery and a snatched ponytail.

Cher, 1974. Theme – Romantic and Glamorous Hollywood Design

The queen of glitz and glamour Cher invented the sheer dress. She attended the Met with the designer Bob Mackie. The sheer dress with stunning sequence detail throughout was very daring at the time. The feather sleeves are iconic and don’t get us started on the purple eye shadow. She is a fashion icon.
