Blake Lively Nearly Played A Fan Fave Character in Mean Girls

Well, this is news we never expected to hear! Blake Lively was nearly cast in iconic chick flick Mean Girls.

Amanda Seyfried has revealed that she very nearly didn’t get the part of Karen in Mean Girls! Our fave Juicy Couture loving gal was ridiculously close to losing the part to our fave queen of the Upper East Side, Blake Lively. Serena Van Der Woodsen with psychic breasts and a ditzy personality? Yeah, we can’t picture it either!

Amanda was originally reading for the part of Regina; she recalls making her first trip out to LA and meeting Lacey Chabert, Blake Lively and Lindsay Lohan who were auditioning for Gretchen, Karen and Cady respectively. She told Vanity Fair: “I flew home, and they were like, ‘We think you’re more correct for Karen.’ So I was like, ‘Oh God, okay, sure’”.

The Mean Girls actress used to be the peacemaker keeping out of the drama in her own high school life making her believe this was a huge help to her in getting the part of Karen. She said: “I think I got Karen because I played that person in high school in order to stay out of the drama.”

Mean Girls premiered before Blake’s career-defining projects The Sisterhood of The Travelling Pants in 2005 and Gossip Girl in 2007 which went on to become fan favourites resulting in a trilogy of movies and a six-season series.

Had Lively been cast there’s no telling whether The Sisterhood Of The Travelling Pants or Gossip Girl would be as they are today with Lively as one of the defining actors.

Casting Director Marci Liroff said back in 2019 that Blake had gotten to the final stages but “some of the filmmakers said to keep looking”.
