Everything We Know About The Stranger Things West End Show
Supposedly it's setting the 'groundwork for the future of Stranger Things'
Yes, you read that right, Stranger Things is heading from screen to stage in a new West End production.
This new play by Kate Trefry, a writer and co-executive producer for the TV series of Stranger Things, will be rooted in the mythology and world of the Netflix global phenomenon.
The show is set in Hawkins, 1959: a regular town with regular worries. Young Jim Hopper’s car won’t start, Bob Newby’s sister won’t take his radio show seriously and Joyce Maldonado just wants to graduate and get the hell out of town. When new student Henry Creel arrives, his family finds that a fresh start isn’t so easy… and the shadows of the past have a very long reach.
This gripping new adventure will take you right back to the beginning of the Stranger Things story – and may hold the key to the end, with the show’s creators Max and Ross Duffer on board, Stranger Things fans may be in for a treat as they await the release date for the final season of the tv show.
Speaking about the stage show, the brothers said, “We are beyond excited about Stranger Things: The First Shadow. Collaborating with the brilliant Stephen Daldry has been nothing short of inspiring, and Kate Trefry has written a play that is at turns surprising, scary, and heartfelt. You will meet endearing new characters, as well as very familiar ones, on a journey into the past that sets the groundwork for the future of Stranger Things. We’re dying to tell you more about the story but won’t – it’s more fun to discover it for yourself. Can’t wait to see you nerds in London!”
Stranger Things Season 4 is #1 on Netflix’s (all-time) Most Popular English TV List with 1.35 billion hours viewed in its first 28 days. It was the second title in Netflix history to cross the billion-hour viewing mark, so we can imagine getting tickets to this show is going to be tough.
Keep an eye out for updates as ticketing information and casting details will be revealed at a later date, but priority access to tickets will be given to fans who register from today at: strangerthingsonstage.com.
The Stranger Things cast are currently getting ready to start filming the final season in May, which means it might not air for another year or two. The show is taking to the stage in late 2023 so it might fill The Upside Down shaped hole in your life.
We are very intrigued to see what it entails.
