Fans Think The Original Gossip Girl Is Making A Comeback – Here’s Why

Hey there Upper Eastsiders!

It seems we have a bit of a mystery on our hands.

On Tuesday, the original Gossip Girl social media accounts were reactivated, posting a picture of the original cast alongside a seriously cryptic caption.

The photo posted was one of the original promo shots for season one of Gossip Girl (2007). It showed the six members of the original cast Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Ed Westwick, Penn Badgley, Chace Crawford and Taylor Momsen posed with a limousine in the streets of New York City.

The caption is what caught fan’s attention and caused a stir at the possibility of an OG reboot. The post said: “Welcome back, Upper East Siders. After a long time away, I see it didn’t take much time for you to dirty up the clean slates I gave you. #GossipGirl.”

Fans bolted to the comments sections on Instagram and Twitter to gasp at the possibility of the original cast members returning to our screens nine years after the final episode of the six season series aired.

This comes only two years after a revival series of the show was launched, which focused on the lives of main characters Zoya Lott, Audrey Hope, Akeno ‘Aki’ Menzies, Max Wolfe, Julien Calloway  and Otto ‘Obie’ Bergmann IV.

The official summary for the revival read: “Eight years after the original website went dark, a new generation of New York private school teens are introduced to the social surveillance of Gossip Girl.”

Continuing on it said: “The prestigious series will address just how much social media-and the landscape of New York itself-has changed in the intervening years.”

None of the original six main characters appeared in the revival’s two seasons, although they did appear both by word of mouth and with Julien and Zoya dressing up as Chuck and Nate on Halloween – what a scene!

The revival’s show runner, Joshua Safran unfortunately announced earlier this year that the Gossip Girl revival was cancelled by HBOMax after a two season run.

Watch out for more about your fave GG gang, we’re sitting waiting for more news to drop soon.
