Here’s Why Book Fans Aren’t Happy With The It Ends With Us Film

Filming is in full swing for the film adaptation of  Colleen Hoover’s hit romance novel It Ends With Us which  follows Lily Bloom as she moves to Boston after university.

There, she meets and falls in love with a neurosurgeon called Ryle Kincaid, however things get complicated when her first love Atlas Corrigan reappears in her life after many years.

In January, it was announced that Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni would be taking on the leading roles Ryle and Lily, with Baldoni also directing the film.

We know that filming is underway thanks to viral pictures and videos online of the cast was spotted on set in New York and New Jersey

Blake Lively was seen filming as Lily with her newly dyed red hair in a brown dress with a pink t-shirt on top, and then later on in dark ink trousers and a patchwork jacket.

We also got our first look at Jenny Slate looking chic filming as Alyssa. Slate is playing Ryle’s sister who has an important role in the book as a friend to Lily.

Fans got their first look at Brandon Sklenar in costume as Atlas. Sklenar who is best known for his recent role on the Yellowstone prequel 1984 could be seen embracing Lively in what looks like an emotional scene for their characters.

But the reaction hasn’t been all that positive. Fans of the book have already shared their discontent over Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni’s casting, complaining that actors closer in age to the book should have been cast (Lily and Ryle are meant to be around 23 and 30 in the book while Blake is 35 and Justin is 39).

Readers have now taken to social media to share their outrage over the costuming, particularly Lily Bloom’s eclectic style which fans claim is not at all what was described in the book.

Podcaster Chloe Breana shared her thoughts on TikTok saying “Whoever is in charge of this movie has not read the book”, she added “I’m just at a loss for words, we were already questioning what the movie was going to be like with the casting.”

Will they be changing the character’s ages for the film? Will they surprise fans with the final product? We’ll be patiently waiting to see.

We don’t have a release date for the film yet, and there’s still a lot of filming left to do so we’re sure we’ll be hearing a lot more about this in the future.
