Penneys Donates 50,000 Pairs Of Late Late Toy Show Pyjamas To Children Across The Country
The retailer has joined forces with Barnardos and children's hospitals in Ireland to create this initiative.
Although Penneys’ 36 stores remain closed across the country, the retailer is still making sure that plenty of children throughout Ireland get excited for this year’s annual Late Late Toy Show, by donating over 50,000 pairs of pyjamas.
Teaming up with Barnardos and children’s hospitals, Penneys’ RTÉ Late Late Toy Show pyjamas collection will be distributed to children just in time the toy show which will broadcast on Friday, November 27.
The pyjamas sets will travel fair and wide across Ireland, being donated to children in DEIS schools, children who access Barnardos centres, as well as direct donations to over 600 families from disadvantaged communities, all packed and coordinated by Penneys’ volunteers.
Every child in Children’s Health Ireland (CHI) at Crumlin, Temple Street and Tallaght hospitals on the night of The Late Late Toy Show will also receive a pair of pyjamas.
Suzanne Connolly, Barnardos CEO said:
“For many years the Late Late Toy Show has been a rite of passage for young people in Ireland, a night that was always a bit magical and marked the start of the Christmas period. This year has been difficult for many of the children and families that we work with, the pandemic has generated a lot of uncertainty. We were so delighted to receive these pyjama sets from Penneys ahead of the Late Late Toy Show to share with children in advance of the big night. While it’s been such a tough year for so many of us, this kind gesture will bring a little magic and fun to vulnerable children across Ireland.”
Penneys has also announced that it will donate €5,000 to each of the three children’s hospitals – The Children’s Health Foundation Temple Street, Crumlin and The National Children’s Hospital Foundation Tallaght.
Incredible stuff. This is the Christmas spirit we love to see.
