Rihanna Teases What to Expect From Her Super Bowl Performance
Rihanna has teased some of what can be expected from her Super Bowl Performance this Sunday and we’re more than a little excited.
In the past seven years we’ve had new hit music releases from the likes of Harry Styles, Ed Sheeran, Beyoncè and from newcomer turned superstar Olivia Rodrigo, but there was one person missing who dominated the charts throughout the 2000s – Rihanna.
Since the release of her last album in 2016, Anti, the billionaire has kept herself busy launching two successful brands that give competing brands a run for their money – Fenty Beauty and Savage x Fenty. Her annual Savage x Fenty lingerie fashion show known for its inclusivity, out-performed Victoria Secret’s show in all areas, ultimately playing a part in the demise of the controversial brand’s runway show.
She also launched a luxury brand entitled Fenty Maison owned by luxury group LVMH, filmed a documentary, and even birthed a child just last year.

Now she’s taking on the Super Bowl stage for the halftime performance many dream of performing during their music careers, let alone seven years after one’s last release and less than a year after having a baby.
The Barbadian born singer told Apple Music’s Super Bowl 57 Halftime Show press conference on Thursday that: “It feels like it could have only been now. When I first got the call to do it again this year, I was like, ‘Are you sure?’ Like, ‘I’m three months postpartum. Should I be making major decisions like this right now? I might regret this.’ But when you become a mom, there’s something that just happens where you feel like you could take on the world, you can do anything.”
This performance will mark Rihanna’s first since singing ‘Wild Thoughts’ at the 2018 Grammy Awards with DJ Khaled and Bryson Tiller. The superstar mentions the biggest challenge in creating this spectacular show was building the setlist and trying to cram 17 years worth of work into a 13 minute set.
She says: “That was the hardest, hardest part, deciding how to maximize 13 minutes but also celebrate. That’s what this show is gonna be — a celebration of my catalog in the best way that we could have put it together. Some songs we have to lose because of that, and that’s gonna be OK, but I think we did a pretty good job of narrowing it down.”

While there are a lot of people involved – they quite literally have 300 people to put the stage together in a total of 8 minutes – it’s Rihanna’s name that will be associated with the performance forever… no matter if it’s a success or a drastic fail: “There are a lot of people who are part of this show and a huge part of the reason why this show is gonna be as incredible as it is,” she says. “I couldn’t have done it without them, but you know what? At the end of the day, if it flops or it flies, my name has to stand by that.”
We’re so excited to see what she has in store after a seven year music hiatus!
