Thinking Of Getting Lip Fillers? Here’s Everything You Need To Know First
The popularity of lip fillers is on the rise and we spoke to one STELLAR reader who's been getting them done for the last two years. She tells us why she wont be stopping any time soon.
What it is: The main ingredient of dermal fillers is Restylane which is basically hydraulic acid.
What happens: The Restylane gel is injected into the skin in small amounts.
What it does: Restylane adds volume to the lips and decreases wrinkles.
How long does it take: The procedure takes about 30 minutes.
Cost: €200 – €450 depending on mil. Usually one mil gives a natural looking enhancement.
Results: Results can be seen immediately.
Side Effects: Some slight swelling and redness which goes down after a few days.
Lip fillers are a controversial topic. For every young woman who wants to try them out, there are three other gals who think it’s vain to even flirt with the idea. Since 18-year-old Kylie Jenner came clean about getting lip fillers last year, interest from young women in search of the procedure drastically increased. According to Dr Leah Totton of Dr Leah Clinics, her practice reported a 70% rise in lip filler enquires in the 24 hours after Kylie’s confession.
On home turf, some of our top bloggers have openly spoken about getting lip fillers including Aj Fitzsimmons of AJmakeup, Emma Henderson from Fluff And Fripperies and most recently Joanne Larby, The Make-Up Fairy, in her tell-all book.
We spoke to one STELLAR reader, Lucy, 26, who has been getting the procedure for the last two years, and here’s what she had to say.
“I had always felt like my top lip could be more plump and when I did a bit of research, I saw that the price was actually quite reasonable. I’d had it in the back of my mind for a little while but when I decided I wanted to go through with it, the process was really quick. I booked an appointment in Donnybrook Clinic in Dublin 4 and went there the very next week. Loads of people I know have lip fillers, including three of my very good friends so I knew it would be quick and not too sore.
To be honest, I couldn’t tell you exactly what it is that they put into my lips!
“I had one mil put into my top lip and it cost €250. They gave me a leaflet telling me what they were injecting in, but to be honest, I couldn’t tell you exactly what it is that they put into my lips! The pain was bearable and the sting only lasts about two minutes. The results last about nine months and I have to admit, I don’t like the look of my lips anymore when they start to reduce. They definitely make me feel more confident in my appearance. I’ll definitely be getting them done for the next few years anyway. They do fade though, it’s not like they’re permanent.”
The important thing to remember before you consider any cosmetic procedure? Do your research, find a reputable clinic and ask plenty of questions during your consultations.
