The last few days of glorious sunshine have us all pining for summer, and it finally feels like it’s right around the corner. Just like every other Irish person, we know we’ve got to soak up as much Vitamin D as we can before the weather takes a turn – and unfortunately, it looks like the sky will be back to grey and drizzly as soon as Saturday. Booo!
So, you better act fast and step out into the city, with our list of six things to do in Dublin when it’s sunny. You’ve been warned.
1.Have A Picnic at Iveagh Gardens

A stone’s throw from Stephen’s Green, the Iveagh Gardens are a hidden gem in the city and the perfect spot for a cheeky picnic. Pack up your basket with cheese and crackers and wander through the wood ‘til you find your favourite stretch of grass. Nothing left to do but switch off and spread out! Open til 6pm everyday.
2. Embrace Your Inner Foodie

Described as a ‘moving feast’, the Irish Village Markets are a selection of tasty street food stalls that do the rounds of Dublin three days a week from 11am-2pm. On Wednesdays you’ll find them at Spencer Dock and Eastpoint, Thursdays they swing by The Grand Canal and UCD, and on Friday’s they land at Sandyford and Leopardstown. They’ve got Korean BBQ, paella, falafels, tacos and plenty more – it’s foodie heaven. Check them out here.
3. Spot Some Deer At Phoenix Park

There is nothing cuter than watching deer grazing, and at Phoenix Park you can get pretty close and personal with these gorgeous real life Bambis. The deer are wild and hang out all day, and it’s completely free to observe their adorable movements. Plus, Phoenix Park has plenty of gorgeous walking trails and flowery paths to explore. Open 24 hours, 7 days a week.
4.Visit the Zoo

Speaking of Phoenix Park, when’s the last time you visited the zoo?! Pre-book your tickets or get them at the entry gate to see an impressive array of beautiful animals, from lions and elephants to flamingos and lemurs. Adult tickets are 18.25, and children over three are 13.50. It’s the perfect sunny day activity to make you feel like a kid again – go on, pick up that cuddly ‘zoovenir’. Book here!
5.Enjoy The Long Evening at a Rooftop Bar

Not everyone can make it out midday, but those of you who are working in the sunshine can take full advantage of the longer evenings and enjoy a post-work drink and dinner at one of the city’s lovely outdoor bars. We highly recommend Layla’s Rooftop, Ranelagh, which has gorgeous views of Dublin and a very tasty cocktail menu. Book here.
6.Take a Kayaking Tour

This one’s for those seeking a little adventure in the sunshine! Why not take a kayak tour and cruise along Dublin’s glistening waters? You can see the seals at Dalkey bay or enjoy a tranquil kayak along the Royal Canal. It’s totally beginner friendly, can be done individually or with a group, and all the locations are easily accessed by the DART from the city centre. More here!
