Looking For Inspiration? Here’s How To Pinterest Like A Pro

Pinterest is like Marmite, you either love it or hate it. Some people find it overwhelming and hard to find things and others say it’s their holy grail way to find their style from fashion, to makeup and even homeware. However, for those who don’t know how to best utilise the website it can be daunting, it can honestly be like trying to find the end of a never-ending maze of random content.

When used correctly and with the right tools, Pinterest can be the best spot to find new styles, new looks and even new DIY projects. If you’re one of those people that just can’t get a grasp on how to work the platform, try following these 6 simple steps and see how you get on:

1. Be Specific

When searching on Pinterest it is important to have a general idea of what you’re looking for. If you’re on the lookout for new home decor, for example, try and narrow it down to what kind of pieces you would like. If you’re interested in bamboo furniture, try searching that up and see what similar furniture is paired alongside those in the pictures that come up. Try typing in words such as ‘bamboo furniture inspiration’ to see different types of ways bamboo furniture could be incorporated into a room.

The more specific you are with your searches the more please you tend to be with your results – in saying that some searches can lead you to other aspects and it is a great way of seeing other ideas and features which are different but also similar to the ones you searched.

2. Set the tone

Pinterest, like most websites, delivers content to you that is tailored to you. If you continuously search for a certain type of style that you’d love to make your own look, Pinterest will continue to tailor your home screen content to suit your interests.

By repeatedly looking up different styles and brands, your home screen could end up being the place you find the style you’ve been searching for!

3. Don’t be afraid to venture

Very rarely when we search on internet search engines such as Google or Bing do we scroll very far down in the results, as there are usually hundreds and thousands of results, a lot of which tell us the same thing.

However, Pinterest is one website I would encourage scrolling through. With loads of different results for each search and the majority of which are really unique it is well worth venturing through the endless pages of content as you never know what you might find.

4. Create Boards

Creating boards on Pinterest will help you keep all of your ideas in one location. If your main aim of Pinterest is to find new makeup looks to create but you also want to look at ways you could renovate your bathroom, it can be quite confusing looking back through your pinned items.

Pinning items you like or find interesting into boards of what you find them interesting for can be a creative way of organising your thoughts. You can then see clearly the overall vibe or look that you’re leaning towards with your bathroom while also being able to see your stylish new make up looks in a separate location.

5. Pin original content

Just because it isn’t already on Pinterest doesn’t mean it can’t be. If on another website you have found, for example, the couch of dreams to fit into the gorgeous new look you have but can’t seem to find it on Pinterest then why not add it yourself?

Pinterest is designed to allow you to save content from anywhere on the internet; you can pin literally anything online, including articles, gifs, videos, and images. This makes it the perfect online organisational website for whatever content you’re working with.

6. Engage with others

A lot of people forget when using Pinterest that you are able to connect and engage with others on it. Doing this can take your Pinterest experience to a whole new level. If you are interested in someone’s content why not shoot them a message and see if they can help you out in your search?

Connecting with people with similar interests as you from all over the world is one of the amazing things we can do with the internet so don’t take it for granted!
