What Team STELLAR Is Loving This Week

It’s hot, hot, hot out there!

And you know what else is hot? The latest issue of STELLAR, which is on shelves now if you haven’t picked it up yet, get on it!

We are experiencing a lot of summer newness here at STELLAR HQ as we welcome a new team member and bid farewell to another. Our digital content editor Jade Carpenter is heading off on an adventure to Australia to do some travelling which is very exciting, and that means that Aoife Cody Kane is our newest team member.

Here you’ll get to know Aoife a little more, just like you have our other fab writers, we’re super excited to have her.

And with that, let’s get into it, here’s what we are loving this week.

Jade C is loving…The Album

Lads, the new Jonas Brothers album is unreal. Like, as a fan of the band of course I’m going to say that, but I promise it’s far from their Disney Channel past you may think of. It’s titled The Album and almost every song on the album is a bop and has such good summer vibes! If you’re popping some tunes on in the sun this week give it a go, and thank me later.

Special mention to Summer In The Hamptons, Vacation Eyes (which is a tribute to their wives) and Summer Baby.

Aoife is loving…Packed Lunches

Yes, it sounds boring. But joining the STELLAR team this week means I’ve been packing myself a lunch, and I’m surprisingly getting a lot of joy out of it! Not only am I saving money and eating a little healthier, but it’s given me an opportunity to be present and get to know my new colleagues in the office. Everyone has been so warm and welcoming, and it still hasn’t quite sunk in yet. The excitement is real!

I’ve been shown the ropes by the wonderful Jade Carpenter, and I’m delighted that she gets to jet off to Oz for some new adventures, but devastated that we won’t get to work together. Still, I can’t wait to see what amazing things she is sure to do!

Note to self – it’s true what they say. Sandwiches cut in triangles just taste better.

Lorna is loving… Customised Haircare

I was never one for looking after my hair – I’m a skincare fanatic through and through – as it kind of just looked after itself without needing a helping hand. But it made me wonder why we have all these lotions and potions for our face yet up until recently a lot of us bought a generic supermarket brand, I didn’t even check the bottles to check they would work on my hair I just went with the smell I liked! A number of years ago when I was travelling around the US after spending my summer in Rhode Island on a J1, I came across Function of Beauty, and it has been part of my hair wash game ever since.

Function of Beauty essentially has four base shampoos and conditioners to reflect your type of hair: straight, wavy, curly and coily. You then have the option of adding 3 booster shots to each bottle depending on your hair concerns whether you’re trying to add volume, de-frizz, lengthen and even colour protect. You’ve a choice between 13 different boosters (2 come in each box), you can add the same boosters to your shampoo and conditioner or you can mix three different ones into each depending on what you’re looking for.

I was only delighted when the invite landed in my inbox for a dinner with the Function of Beauty team to celebrate their launch into Boots Ireland. Irish people love a customisable product so I can foresee this going down a treat. I’ve had my latest bottles over a year now and I’ve still got plenty of product left – revolutionary!

Jade C is loving… West Side Story

The musicals coming to Dublin lately have been brilliant and another great one is about to open at the Bord Gais Energy Theatre. One of my favourite shows West Side Story is on from the 12th to the 24th of June. The show follows two rival gangs in New York City along with a story of forbidden love, which is heartbreakingly beautiful. Plus, the dancing in this show is top-notch you won’t want to miss it.

Aoife is loving…Day Festivals

The weekend before last I visited London with a few friends to attend Cross The Tracks, a day festival in Brockwell Park. There’s something so great about getting up early in the sunshine and making a full day out of it – browsing the food stalls, flaking out on the grass, and of course seeing your favourite acts (like Kelis, pictured above!).

While I love the chaos and community of a camping site and speaker, I also can appreciate not having to trek back in the dark and stumbling around stuffy tents. Instead, after a jam-packed day, it’s back to the rented accomm to get comfy and enjoy a few post-festival chats and drinks. Bliss.

Lorna is loving… Havaianas

I just love when summer roles around and we can finally break out the flip flops. We all remember the €1.50 Penney’s flip-flops we bought every summer (probably not our most sustainable moment ever but it did the job), well about ten years ago I got my first pair of Havaianas for my birthday (I’m an April baby) and I’ve not worn another pair of flip-flops since!

When I was asked by the Arnotts team to pop in and pick up a brand new pair from their pop-up shop I couldn’t say no. They literally had every colour and style you could imagine (even furry animal print ones!) I chose a bubblegum pink pair and added a watermelon charm.

The pop up is on the ground floor of Arnotts beside the escalators at the back of the beauty department and is open until August for all your flip flop needs. They make great birthday or Christmas presents with the basic thin strapped flip flops coming in at €30. You can add charms and even purchase them for a pair you may already have. They’re €5 each.

I can’t wait to wear mine this summer!

Jade C is loving…My Job!

The classic quote often associated with Winnie The Pooh comes in handy here, “How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.”

This week marks my last week with STELLAR and I have to say leaving my dream job isn’t an easy thing, no matter how excited I am for what’s ahead of me. I have been so lucky to have worked with such an amazing team and experienced some unbelievable things in my time here. They are memories, and people I will hold on to forever.

I get emotional when I think about leaving, but I am also buzzing for the adventures that await when I travel to Australia and beyond the next few years. I have always had the travel bug so it’s time to head off for now, but you never know what the future will hold!

I know Team STELLAR will be absolutely fine without me thanks to the talented gals and I want to say a big welcome to Aoife, who will be taking over my role, she’s a star already and I can’t wait to see what she brings to the site.

And thank you to all the readers for your support!

Bye for now!

Jade x
