5 DIY Protein Bar Recipes That Will Save You An Absolute Fortune
Forget dropping €4 a go on a shop-bought bar.
Protein bars are always a handy thing to have around as a post-workout snack, or for those days when you know you won’t even have time to think about lunch until 4pm.
But, like most convenient foods, they can be pretty pricey when you buy them off the shelf. At double the price of a chocolate bar, it can sometimes be hard to justify making the (relatively) healthy choice when you’re on a budget.
Our solution? Invest in a tub of protein powder instead – you can get a 1kg bag for around €16 if you shop around – and make your own bars in batches at home. Not only will you save money, you can also control the amount of sugar and processed ingredients you’re putting in. Win!
Try out one of these five recipes this weekend, and prepare to be the envy of all your office/college buddies next week…
1. No-Bake Peanut Butter Bars
This US recipe calls for Rice Chex cereal, but you can swap in the rice cereal of your choice, or add extra oats instead.
2. Almond Fudge Protein Bars
Vanilla protein, almond butter, honey… YUM.
3. No-Bake 3 Layer Coconut Protein Bars
Coconut oil and shredded coconut add a lovely sweet kick to these bars.
4. Lemon Poppy Seed Protein Bars
Who needs a morning muffin when you have these bad boys? The recipe calls for vanilla stevia, but you can just use plain stevia or a sweetener of your choice and add a dash of vanilla essence.
5. Protein Granola Bars
Oats, chia seeds, linseeds, blueberries, coconut… these no-bake museli bars will set you right up for the day.
