Fitness Files: TV Presenter Blathnaid Treacy

We get the dish on what our faves eat in a day, as well as their self-care tips and tricks!

What is your go-to breakfast?

I’m not a huge breakfast eater, I love a fruit bowl if I’m feeling very healthy. I often have a bowl of granola with blueberries and banana with honey on top. If I’m feeling like more of a treat, I’ll have a coffee and a croissant from my local.

What do you usually have for lunch and dinner?

I love tomato soup! So, I’ll usually have soup with a toasted sandwich. My go-to dinner is a big spinach salad with peppers, cucumber and avocado covered in an olive oil, honey, balsamic vinegar dressing. I’ll have a roast breast of chicken; marinated olive oil, black pepper and balsamic vinegar, and roasted sweet potato wedges with it.

What do you always put in your shopping basket?

Avocado’s, spinach, chicken, peppers, sweet potatoes.

 What are your favourite snacks?

Chocolate! I love old school treats, right now I’m obsessed with Tea Cakes and Caramel wafer Biscuits. Not so healthy but it’s important to bend the rules!

What are the most used items on your spice/herb rack?

Chilli Flakes, black pepper and curry powder.

What is your desert island dish?

It used to be a Thai Green Curry, but now I’m really loving Indian cuisine, there are a few nice restaurants near me in Dublin 7.  I love Butter Chicken Masala!

Would you call yourself a foodie?

I’ve definitely gotten more into food as I’ve gotten older, I’ve started to take a better look at what I put into my body, I had a spell in the hospital with severe stomach pain, I’d been over indulging in really rich foods and I didn’t realise I had an intolerance to dairy and a few other things, so I cut a lot out of my diet for about a year, I felt great, but I allow myself treats here and there. I think it’s important not to be too strict with yourself, life is for living and bending the rules!

How do you stay motivated when it comes to fitness?

I do yoga nearly every day; I feel it in my body and my mood, if I haven’t done it in a couple of days, I do it because I know I’ll feel so much better afterwards. I walk a lot too, about an hour or so a day. We adopted a dog now too so she motivates me to get up and go every day.

 Describe your ideal workout

I’ve been doing the Yoga With Adriene videos which I love. If I want a bit more of a work out I’ll do videos focusing on the core and building strength. I’ve started squatting too as part of my routine.

To be honest my ideal workout is getting outdoors, going on a big walk or a swim. Great for the mind and body!

What is your top self-care tip?

Take time for yourself, do what feels good and listen to your body, stop eating foods that make you feel bloated and sluggish, go outside and put your phone away!
